WHAT ARE INFRARED?
Infrared therapy is a physiotherapy technique that exploits the potential and biological effects produced in tissues by infrared rays.
WHAT ARE THEY FOR?
The infrared technique is used in physiotherapy for: Contractures; Muscle Pain; Cardiovascular Diseases; Back Pain; Fatigue.
HOW THEY WORK
Infrared rays are nothing more than electromagnetic waves, low-frequency rays that produce and emit heat. This heat is absorbed by the superficial layers of the skin.
The application, using a special lamp positioned 50-60 cm from the area to be treated, is carried out for approximately 20-30 minutes.
THE EFFECTS
Although the greatest benefits are guaranteed by the production of heat, the main effects generated by the use of this technique can be mainly divided into:
• organic, i.e. relating to the thermal effect obtained thanks to the production of heat;
• therapeutic: the increase in temperature facilitates muscle relaxation on the one hand, and the analgesic effect on the other, through the reduction and removal of algogenic substances from the pathological tissues.
Blood circulation also benefits, promoting the trophic effect.
WHEN ARE THEY CONTRAINDICATED?
There are no contraindications. Caution is advised in patients with heart disease or dermatitis, fever, or the presence of metallic synthetic materials.
